You’d think that being a runner in Oregon, I would have a rain jacket already that is well loved and used, but I don’t. I’d always just use some cheap waterproof jacket (as in it wasn’t really waterproof at all) I have had in my closet for years or I would just run without and get soaking wet. When I was asked to review this jacket, I jumped at the chance and when it arrived in the mail – oh my, it was love at first sight! It was so fancy and awesome and I could hardly wait to try it out!
The Under Armour Atlas GORE-TEX Active women’s rain jacket is a slender fitting jacket made with GORE-TEX Active, which means it is 100% waterproof but still super breathable & lightweight. It it built to withstand crazy wind and all kinds of weather by being made with 3 layer bonded fabric and extended cuffs with thumb for added protection. It comes with fully taped seams, two zippered chest pockets with elastic for carrying all your running needs and an adjustable hem and hood. It also has a low profile hook and loop at center front to allow for venting in between rain showers! It also is completely storable and packs into its own pocket when you put it away for the summer – how cool is that?!
This is a very stylish cut for a rain jacket and I got to say, I looked really good running in the rain! The jacket fits true to size and is meant to be close to you but you could probably also size it up if you want a slightly looser fit. It currently comes in black with turquoise trim or blue with orange trim, both of which look stunning!
I took the jacket out for a few test runs – one 4 mile run in on and off sprinkles and one 10 mile run in the pouring rain the whole time! On both runs I stayed completely dry which was very surprising on the 10 miler. GORE-TEX of course “guarantees to keep you dry” but before I ran I had my doubt – now I have none! I had some slight issues with the hood staying up as I had both a ponytail and a hat on, but it still tried to hang on and stay up the best it could. I was also surprised at how warm I kept in the jacket – I practically overheated on the 4 mile run so I had to go with just a tank top on a rather chilly morning for the 10 mile run and I was perfectly fine.
This jacket is pretty expensive for a rain jacket in my opinion, but I also feel that it is well worth the money because it actually does what it says it’s going to do and that’s keep you dry the whole time! This is a definite must have for Oregon weather running and I’m so glad that I have one now!
