[Other Notable Facts: Murli Massimukku was the umpire for this match. His informative Match Report is given below.
MCC won the toss and elected to field on a damp outfield with conditions being favourable for the bowlers. Punjab XI started carefully making 15 in four overs. Then Gautham from MCC who had been bowling very good line found the stumps of Navin. Soon, Shoaib who had been bowling tight got into action and Gautham and Shoiab together reduced Punjab XI to 32/5. So PunjabXI lost 4 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs. Ravi Mudhurai and Rajveer Dhillon (the opener who had been solid all through his innings) started building up a partnership of 62 runs until Rajveer was caught and bowled by John. Then Ravi Mudgil came in and started to rotate strike while Ravi Muthura began to accelerate the scoring. Ravi Mudhurai managed a 50 runs landmark. With other batsmen contributing a little Punjab XI ended up making 185/9.
MCC opened with John and Zafar. While Zafar was timing sweetly and finding the boundaries with ease, John had a hard time middling the ball and was the first to get out (lbw) to an nice incoming delivery from Ravi Mudgil. Then Khan Barech came in to bat and very soon pulled a thigh muscle while running. John came in as a runner but did not have to run for long before he was run out. That put Shoaib in for batting, he started building a partnership with Zafar who was scoring fluently. Both of them survived a few close lbw shouts and a couple of missed catches. Zafar went on to make a half century (53) before edging a ball from Rakesh to the keeper. In Zafar's absence Shoaib carried the innings on and started playing some big strokes and clearing the ropes a couple of times. After 15th over both teams had made 79 runs but MCC had lost 3 fewer wickets than punjab XI. So the game was moving balanced. After Zafar's wicket Punjab XI tightened their bowling and fielding and were sure of a win when Shoaib started playing his big shots and along with Lokesh, who was solid at the other end, brought close to the end where he holed out in the deep midwicket region. The incoming batsmen Gautham stepped up and cloberred one six and then a misjudged single and some poor calling cost him his wicket. Nish Parekh came and got out right away while trying to sneak in a second run. Then the young keeper for MCC Ahmad came in when the required rate was almost 9. Ahmad hit a big six and got the score close. Some good running and risk free cricket brought MCC to the last over requiring 9 of 6 balls. Ravi Mudgil bowled the last over for Punjab XI, and started off well giving 3 run in two balls and then bowled a beamer which resulted in an edge and two extra runs. The 4rth delivery was bowled a wide, bringing the equation to 2 required off 3, then he bowled a dot ball. On the 5th delivery MCC took a single and tied the scores. For the last ball all the PunjabXI fielders were up close. Ahmed tried to clear the infield but could not connect. Alok tried to steal a bye but PunjabXI got him runout.]
